POLICY ON MISSED COURSEWORK
DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO START AND FINISH YOUR WORK.
Intro Module Exam: Students must complete the Intro Module Exam with a grade of 100% in order to proceed in the course. This assessment is due with the Intro Module, and failing to complete it by the due date will result in being marked as having "never attended" or "stopped attending" the course and given a grade of F, per the Registrar's Office policy on non-attendance.
- Work submitted after the due dates listed in Blackboard may result in a grade of zero. The instructor is solely responsible for determining whether provisions will be made for unforeseen circumstances. You must report these circumstances as soon as possible. You may be required to produce documentation, but please do not send documentation unless it is requested.
- Keeping up with grades, course work, and deadlines is your responsibility as a student. A course schedule and syllabus are provided to aid you in this endeavor. Occasionally, I may send out reminder emails/announcements, but this is simply a courtesy and should not be relied upon for remembering to complete coursework. "I forgot about the exam/assignment/etc." is not an acceptable excuse for missing deadlines. Likewise, it is up to students to promptly retrieve notes/lecture material/announcements from any missed days from your fellow classmates; you can use Blackboard email for this. I do not provide lecture materials on an individual basis (aka I don't give lectures twice).
- Please note that students are solely responsible for ensuring they have the properly functioning materials to complete all course work and keep up with course announcements, reminders, and updates. "I don't understand Packback," for example, is not an acceptable excuse for missing required work.
- You will notice that the majority of the items listed are technological in nature. If you have technical issues, it is up to you as a student to seek out the most appropriate and timely methods of correcting these issues, as directed by your instructor (see link above). Keep in mind that you may be required to provide documentation of your communication with tech support should such issues arise.
Missed Packback Posts
Anything posted after the due date listed on the Course Schedule will receive half credit. The lowest Packback grade will drop at the end of the semester.
Missed Quizzes
Unlimited attempts for all quizzes are available throughout the duration of the semester until 11:59pm on the day of the Final Exam (see the Course Schedule, located on Blackboard). Therefore, no make-up attempts for quizzes after this time will be allowed.
Missed Exams
There will be exactly one opportunity for make-up exams, no questions asked. During the make-up period (see Course Schedule, located on Blackboard) all exams from the semester will reopen. You will have a total of two attempts for each exam throughout the semester, so any attempts remaining during the make-up period are fair game. Therefore, during this time, you may make up any and all of the exams you missed. You may also complete any second attempts you have left in an effort to improve your grade. If you wish to "attend" the make-up day, you simply have to take the test(s) you missed; contacting your instructor is not necessary.
If you miss an exam for any reason, you will receive a zero for that exam, even if the grade will be dropped at the end of the semester. This does not necessarily mean the zero will be counted against you.
For all classes, I will take the highest grade between the midterm and the final exam. Therefore, the final exam is optional (taking it can only help you, not hurt you). Do not ask me if you should take the final exam. Your grades are listed in Blackboard so you may calculate your current standing in the course, so whether or not to take the final is solely your decision to make.
Missed Video Lectures (CJ 300)You are expected to watch all video lectures. The level of success a person has in a class is typically positively correlated with virtual lecture attendance. Each class builds on the previous material; therefore, missing even a single lecture may put you seriously behind. As such, attendance will be monitored for every lecture. This attendance is required and may impact your final course grade.
Missed Participation Activities (face-to-face, on-campus classes)
Class participation/attendance will be assessed via a participation activity (such as a "minute paper", discussion question to present to the class, individual or group activity, question about the reading, etc.). This is to check that you are reading and should be an easy way for you to earn points. If you miss a class or two, don’t worry. I will offer more than the required number of opportunities.
Other Missed Work (including the Final Project assignments for CJ 300)
All module work not listed above is due with the module (see the Course Schedule, located on Blackboard ). In general, missed or late work will not be accepted after the due date.
